Chain and plane model for the high-Tc superconductor YBCO and the effect of disorder (bibtex)

Abstract:
The critical temperature for the high Tc superconductor YBCO is calculated for varying levels of in-plane impurity concentrations using a model which is essentially focused on two structural elements within the unit cell – the copper oxide chains and planes. This model, of Atkinson's, is altered to include the possibility of disorder. With the introduction of in-plane impurities a suppression in Tc is observed. The results of this work as compared to experiment are encouraging.
