Penetration depth of a magnetic field in granular superconductors (bibtex)
by Scott Oldewening
Abstract:
A quantum mechanical model is used to attempt to explain the deviation from expected classical behaviour of measurements of the superfluid fractions of a YBCO-type material. The superfluid fractions are calculated from three typical models of the superconducting material YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-\delta}$. This is done using a quantum mechanical model based on the Josephson coupling between superconducting grains and the charging effects associated with the fluctuating number of Cooper pairs on the individual grains. Several strengths of the charging effect are examined at low temperatures for each model.
