1993 IMAGE CONTEST WINNER
COMPUTER-AIDED CHEMISTRY CATEGORY

A display of a 2D slice through the total electron density of C-60 (buckyball). Higher densities are colored "hotter" colors, lower densities are colored "cooler". The same idea used for generating iso surfaces was used to polygonize the data plane - all that changed was the voxel classification function. The user is able to rotate/ translate/scale the medal in real time, as well as orient any number of data planes arbitrarily in space, and control the range of values that are displayed. This flexibility and interactive performance helps the user determine very quickly what is going on in their dataset.
