The H323 gatekeeper is an intermediary that provides a mapping between a known user name and the actual Internet location where this user is at a given moment. NetMeeting equivalent is called Internet Locator Service (ILS) but I was not able to have Voxilla link up with a NetMeeting's ILS server. In general, gatekeeping is important for roaming users that want to receive their VoIP calls wherever they are logged in, but it did not matter to me at all.
