Monte-Carlo study of frustrated XY-model on a penrose lattice (bibtex)
by Gordon Murdoch
Abstract:
The thermodynamic properties of a nearest neighbour J frustrated XY-model on a two-dimensional (2D) Penrose lattice were investigated using Monte Carlo simulations. We have investigated the energy, specific heat, magnetization, Edwards-Anderson order parameter, and susceptibility to determine the possibility of a low temperature spin glass phase in this system. Studies of an unfrustrated XY-model on a Penrose lattice point to a Kosterlitz-Thouless (KT) transition in the low temperature region. Recent work on the so-called Fully Frustrated XY (FFXY) model, support a spin glass transition. The results obtained in this study also point to a possible paramagnetic to spin glass transition in this region.
