- Final exam: December 12, 09:00-12:00.
- Some general comments on the structure
of our first-year Physics offerings may be of interest to you.
- On-line Homework, through the website masteringphysics.com.
Use the activation code included with your copy of the textbook and
your Brock ID ("ab12yz"), and join the course "FW2012D2PHYS1P23" or
"FW2012D2PHYS1P93" as appropriate. The online homework is always due
at 11:59pm on Sunday night, in time for the new week's tutorials.
- The learning goals pointer (see the Homework link on the left)
and the assigned homework will advance each Tuesday at 12pm, so you will
have 5 days to do the homework. Each week's
tutorial is on the material above this pointer.
The first homework assignment (An Introduction to MasteringPhysics) is going to be
available at noon on Wednesday, September 5, and is due 11:59pm on Sunday,
September 9.
- MasteringPhysics is based on Socratic principles, and if used as intended, has been shown
to improve competence at all skill levels, through practice and independent work.
Still, some students choose
to cheat (shocking, I know!) on MasteringPhysics by using a web search engine to look
up the answers. This is a common form of academic misconduct, but it
can and does improve the MP scores, as many correct answers have been posted
by other students. However, MP score is worth 10-15% of the final grade, while the final exam
is worth 35-40% with a minimum passing grade of 50%,
and cheating on MasteringPhysics undermines your performance on the final exam.
Is it worth it? - you decide.
